Many club golfers are constantly looking to hit long golf drives. There is no doubt that hitting the golf ball a long way off the tee is an attractive and immensely rewarding golf shot to hit. These are the kind of shots that get noticed around the golf course, with everybody looking round to see who is hitting their golf drives so far.
Can the average golfer hit long golf drives?
They certainly can. Very often, the reason golfers do not hit their golf drives very far is they do not know what they should be doing in order to hit those long golf drives. Some equate distance with a fast swing. That together with the erroneous idea that brute force alone is needed, will often result in failure and frustration. All this leaves the golfer floundering and wondering what to try next.
Take a tip from me, and learn a lesson from one of the masters of golf, Fred Couples. If you ever get the chance to see the Fred Couples golf swing, especially with the driver, you will appreciate the sheer power and control there is in that swing. He does all the right things that we need to learn from in order to hit those long golf drives.
Mainly, there is the smooth, flowing tempo. All golfers need to have a full shoulder turn, keep the lower body still, maintain the angle of the left forearm and club as far as waist height before unwinding the wrists into and through the ball at impact. This is the so called late hit, and it is a characteristic of the long golf drive.
It is beneficial to your golf game if you can learn, and practice this late hit golf swing. From my own experience, once I had learned it, I was very soon afterwards hitting long golf drives.
Here Is A Useful Driver Golf Swing Tip
My driver golf swing tip has to do with practice. Many golfers fear using the driver for one reason or another, and as a result tend to leave the club at home, gathering dust, so it does not get used as much as the other clubs in the bag. The long you leave playing it the longer you do not realize your full golfing potential. You are in effect handicapping yourself by choosing not to play this club. The only way to become proficient in the use of this club is to get used to playing it.
Take a bucket of golf balls on to the range and start hitting them with your driver. You are not on the golf course here, so it does not matter, to begin with, if you spray your shots around a bit. What you are trying to do is build confidence with the club. Too many handicap golfers have artificial golf swings with the driver. They tend to try and manufacture a golf shot with the club instead of hitting the ball. Try and get away from this tendency and just concentrate on swinging the club, letting the loft of the clubface do the work for you.
Good golf is all about having a good swing, and you need to be able to swing the driver properly in order to be successful using it. The best way to learn the driver swing is to take a metre length of rope with a weight attached to the end and swing it just as you would swing a golf club.
After using the rope a few times in this way, you will discover that you have to have a certain tempo in the swing or this method of practice will not work. You cannot swing the rope too fast, or too slowly. The tempo you learn using the rope is the one recommended to try using the driver club on the practice range.
Just by learning to swing the driver this way, you will develop control, and build the confidence needed to hit good golf drives. It is worth a try.

Golf Driver Tips - Golf Driver Swing Speed
One of the biggest misconceptions of the handicap golfer is that the faster you swing the golf driver the further the ball travels. That is, the end result is a long golf drive. The idea that thrashing the ball with the driver means you will increase your driver distance is false. There is something far more subtle going on in the driver golf swing which is the key to hitting long golf drives.
I know from my own experience of playing the game how frustrating it can be when you try to swing the driver as hard as you can only to see your golfing buddies hitting their shots a long way past yours, and without using nearly as much energy as you. If you do not appreciate the dynamics of the driver golf swing you will not be able to appreciate why you are not realizing your true potential in hitting your drives further.
The first thing to do is to slow the swing down. I know this is hard to do when you are almost desperate to hit a long drive. But is has to be done. Once you start to swing the driver fast, it seems to get faster each hole you use it. Even if someone tells you your driver swing is too fast the handicap golfer takes no notice because he or she does not understand that golf driver swing speed alone does not result in hitting long golf drives.
The second thing to do is to make sure you are giving yourself enough room to swing the club in as wide an arc as possible in order to generate the necessary clubhead speed at impact. Do not stand too close to the ball at the address or this will cramp your swing and result in a poor shot.
So, having slowed down your swing with the driver, and checked your stance, there is one more thing you need to work on to generate the maximum golf driver swing speed, which will increase the distance you hit your drives. Watch out for the second part of this article for more detail on what that is.

Driver Golf Swing Video - Lee Trevino Driver Golf Swing
The Lee Trevino driver golf swing philosophy is to fade the shot to the right off the tee. This is intentional, and in order to achieve this he would aim his drives to the left of the target to allow for the fade to bring the ball round to the right. In effect, the drive was a low hit shot which had a lot of legs.
That means, for distance with the driver, he relied on the run of the ball once it hit the fairway. Trevino was not a long hitter, nor did he claim to be, rather he was more concerned to keep the ball in play. This was something he did effectively, having one six major championships in his playing career.
Trevino believes that the back of the left hand and the clubface are in a line, so if the back of the hand goes left of the line of flight, so does the clubface. On the backswing he took the club on the outside track, with the clubface closed, and re routed his swing plane on the downswing.

Golf Swing Tips - How To Use A Driver In Golf
The driver is the most difficult club in the bag to use for most handicap golfers. It should be easy really but when you try and smash the ball off the tee with it you soon discover the driver is not so easy to play as you thought.
The problem is golf novices want to try and smash the cover off the ball. The idea that brute force is needed to move the ball seems to be the motivation for this type of swing.
The question of how to use a driver in golf is best dealt with by starting with the fundamentals of the game. That means the grip, stance, and swing.
The grip. There are many different ways of gripping a golf club, and it pays to try the many methods for yourself to see what you are most comfortable with. Having chosen one grip it is best to stay with it for a while, rather than chop and change. It you experiment too much with your grip, you risk losing consistency in your golf game.
The stance. Standing with the feet wide enough apart, but not too wide, gives a good solid base for the driver golf swing to take place. To give you a general idea of how far apart the feet should be, I would say it depends on how tall you are and therefore on the length of your normal stride. About one stride length is my general rule, and it works for me.
Find the correct distance to stand from the ball. Which means not standing too near the ball so as to cramp your swing, neither too far away where you have to stretch for the ball. Somewhere in between these two extremes is the best position.
With the the correct stance and grip, you then need to swing the driver in a wide and smooth arc around this firm base of your legs and hips, generating as much clubhead speed into the ball as possible.
This has been the way I use my driver in golf.

The Driver Golf Swing - The Golf Driver Swing Is A Learning Curve
When I first started playing golf I remember how incredibly frustrating it is to watch other golfers crashing their golf drives seemingly miles straight down the fairway, leaving me to ponder why I could not hit my drives the same way. I think it is because the golf driver swing looks so easy to the spectator. I soon discovered it is not so easy when you are the one with the golf driver in your hands.
There is a certain amount of pride and showmanship associated with the driver golf swing. Those golfers who hit the longest drives off the tee are the ones that win this unspoken battle of wits, and I wanted to be one of them. I believe that all golfers have at least one good drive per round in their golf game.
Surely that must be true. I know from my own game, when I have had an off game with the driver I can recall at least one reasonably hit drive, thought golfers often finish their round of golf remembering the bad shots rather than the good ones.
The thing that helped me most to conquer the driver golf swing was the realisation that the swing with the driver needed to be slower, with more emphasis on timing the shot than I had thought previously. With that said I spent a lot of time putting those two concepts into practice. I deliberately slowed down my golf driver swing. It was hard to do at first, and I hit some awful shots to begin with.
But I stuck with the method and soon started to see an improvement in the way I was hitting my drives. I also concentrated on a wide arc, as I understood the idea is to sweep the ball off the tee with as much power as I could generate with my hands and upper body muscles.
When I started hitting more consistent drives, I then concentrated in working on the clubhead speed into the ball. The golf swing release as it is called. You snap the hands through the ball at a certain part of the down swing. This gives the drives power and accuracy, just what I needed.
These are just some of the ideas I have learned about how I could improve my driver golf swing.

Driver Golf Swing Tips - Towards A Consistent Golf Swing
The driver is the longest golf club in the bag. If you have a bag full of clubs, it can be the one which you are always trying to push down to the bottom of the golf bag. At least that was my experience. I should have bought a bigger bag I suppose.
Many handicap golfers have a lot of difficulty playing the golf driver. There is so little loft on the club face, and if you do not strike the ball in the sweet spot every time, there is a strong likelihood that your ball will finish off the fairway. In short, you are less likely to get away with a poorly hit drive with a driver, than you are say, with a four wood.
That is why it is important to know how to play the driver. The driver golf swing is not the same as that used to play the iron clubs in the bag. The irons require more of a downward, punch type of shot. Whereas the driver golf swing needs to be more of a sweeping motion of the hands and arms.
To learn to swing the golf driver, you will need to get used to swinging the driver in a smooth rhythmic fashion, while at the same time swinging the club in a wide arc. To achieve a wide arc means taking the club away from the ball with the hands low to the ground, by keeping the arms outstretched and straight. Keep them straight as far as the hips, then you can begin to cock the wrists.
It is best not to over swing. Many good golf teachers advise you not to take the driver much beyond the three quarter swing position. This is because the pivot is more important, and the shoulders can comfortably turn ninety degrees well before the driver shaft gets near being parallel to the ground. So swinging the club to the horizontal position, and further in some cases, once you have achieved a full shoulder turn, is wasted effort.
All that is left to do then, is begin the downswing with the hips, and not the hands. Leading the driver down in this way will keep the wrists cocked until they are about waist height, at which point they are unwound rapidly to give you the maximum clubhead speed needed to hit the drive a long way down the fairway.
This last part of the driver golf swing is called the golf swing release, and it is a good exercise to practice the action as often as you can. You do not need to be on the golf course to practice it, and you do not need to use a golf driver either. You can practice this snapping action with the wrists anywhere.
Rhythm and timing are the two most important elements of a consistent golf swing. It takes practice and dedication to learn the driver golf swing, but it can be done, and you will enjoy you golf more if you become competent with the golf driver.

Driver Golf Swing Tips - Golf Swing Consistency Is The Key
The driver golf swing is the make or brake swing that sets you up or brings you crashing down on the first hole. It is important for the first drive of the round to be down the fairway and in play for your second shot. If you hit a wayward shot with the golf driver you often pay a heavy price in lost balls or time wasted looking for balls in the rough.
Psychologically too, it is important to start the round on a positive note, so a well hit drive down the first fairway will not only lift your spirits, but put you in a positive frame of mind to play a good second shot.
The first of my driver golf swing tips has to do with preparation for the round of golf. Many people rush to the first tee expecting to hit their tee shots straight and far. Sadly, due to lack of readiness for the game, their golf shots are often disappointing.
Lack of time for preparation is hardly a good reason for playing poor golf shots. Just by taking a few practice swings, you can easily accustom the body muscles to the swing action you want. And, it helps calm the mind and put you in the right mental frame for the golf game as well.
I know, I have done it myself many times. Rushing on to the first tee because I have arrived late at the golf club. By doing that I am not being fair to my self or my playing partner, and if I play a wayward drive on the first tee, there is always the spoken or unspoken I told you so, echoing in my ears.
Your attitude to the golf game depends on whether you see it as a social event with friends, where the golf game is a secondary event, or if you seriously want to improve you golf game and lower your handicap. If you want to be a better golfer and play to a lower handicap, then you need to practice and prepare for your rounds of golf.
There are no shortcuts to golf swing consistency. They only happen after a lot of hard work done off the golf course.

Straight Golf Drives With Effortless Ease - Driver Golf Swing
One of my biggest bug bears when I started playing golf, was I could never hit the ball far enough , or straight enough, off the tee. I felt my drives lacked distance every time, and I devoted a lot of time and research trying to find the answer to hitting straight golf drives.
When you are new to golf it seems that you have to hit your golf drives further and straighter than anyone else. Truth be told, it is a macho thing. Your pride and reputation as a golfer are at stake. It does not matter if you lose the hole, at least you can take comfort in the fact that you hit the longest and straightest golf drive off the tee. That's the kudos.
I like watching the golf professionals drive. They make it look so easy, though it never is so easy when I hit my drives off the tee. Their swings tend to be smooth and rhythmic, and with seemingly very little effort, the end result is a towering drive which slowly climbs in elevation until it reaches a certain height where it lingers for a moment before it starts its descent, finally coming to rest nearly three hundred yards down the fairway. Boy, am I envious of that shot.
Those kind of straight golf drives give me great satisfaction. If only I could hit the ball as far as those guys do, and make it look easy as well.
So what are the golf secrets of the superstars? Well I do not know for sure, but I noticed a couple of things which could make me hit straight golf drives. I share them with you here, feel free to try them yourself.
The driver golf swing of the best players seems to be a sweeping motion. I thought to myself, how do I achieve that swing? The answer I came up with was by flattening my swing. The backswing for the drive should be in as wide an arc as possible, which means taking the club back smoothly and as low to the ground as possible, in order to set yourself up for this type of action. When you begin the backswing, keep the arms straight, to start with anyway.
The second key ingredient is the grip. You might need to experiment a bit to find the correct grip which will enable you to swing on this flatter swing plane. It might mean you need to move the right hand more to the right at the address position.
A handy tip, one which helped me to swing this way, is to practice swinging the driver from a side hill position, where your feet are below the ball. I found this tip a great help in learning the driver golf swing.
Good luck in your quest to power those drives down the fairway.
